    SEO include various techniques like social bookmarking, video distribution, image backlinking, web 2.0, rss feed, video creation and submission etc. You have to use only white hat SEO techniques, don't use copied or spammy things and create natural backlinks only.
    SMO include various social networking sites as Facebook, google plus, twitter, linked in etc.... It is about building a community.

    SMO surely must include the weight that search engines are now currently giving to social media signals - such as +1s, Likes, Tweets, etc. They are very much a part of Google's new drive towards relevant content, and they base what is relevant both on keywords and on how many interactions that post is getting. So if you've got a great post with lots of social interaction on it then Google will push that up the rankings above less engaged-with articles.

    Building the community is then not just about backlinks or click-throughs but about getting customer engagement that improves your website in the results pages. SEO and SMO are blending into one.

    Both SEO and SMO are utilized to increase traffic to a certain website. However SEO and SMO are quite different from each other and utilize different techniques to achieve their means. SEO is a process used to improve the ranking of a website in a search engine,it is generally accepted the higher the website ranks in a certain search engine the more visitors the website gets. Search engine Optimization, is meant for increasing the search engine rankings for keywords of a particular website while SMO is meant for brand awareness.
