.htaccess files (or "distributed configuration files") provide a way to make configuration changes on a per-directory basis. A file, containing one or more configuration directives, is placed in a particular document directory, and the directives apply to that directory, and all subdirectories thereof.

A .htaccess (hypertext access) file is a directory-level configuration file supported by several web servers, that allows for decentralized management of web server configuration. They are placed inside the web tree, and are able to override a subset of the server's global configuration for the directory that they are in, and all sub-directories.

.htaccess stands for hypertext access file, which is a catalog level arrangement file upheld by a few web servers, that considers decentralized administration of web server design. They are put inside the web tree, and can override a subset of the server's worldwide design for the index that they are in, and all sub-registries.

htacess is directory-level configuration file for Apache server. You can have multiple htaccess files for each folder. Basically it's used to override a subset of the server's global configuration.

Most common usage is for rewritting URL addresses, to make your url beauty.
