A link farm is any group of web sites that all hyperlink to every other site in the group. Link farms are created by hand but most are created through automated programs and services.

The process of exchanging reciprocal links with Web sites in order to increase search engine optimization. The idea behind link farming is to increase the number of sites that link to yours because search engines such as Google rank sites according to, among other things, the quality and quantity of sites that link to yours. In theory, the more sites that link to yours, the higher your ranking in the search engine results will be because the more links indicate a higher level of popularity among users of the Internet. However, search engines such as Google consider link farming as a form of spam and have been implementing procedures to banish sites that participate in link farming, so the term link farming has garnered negative connotations across the Internet.

Link farming is the process of exchanging reciprocal links to increase our websites position in Search Engine Result Pages. Through link farming, we can increase the number of sites to link with our site and increase our sites ranking because it shows the high popularity if we have many reciprocal links.

.... and that right there is the MOST IMPORTANT PART. It's a sleazy scam at best at this point; and part of what I like to call "nube predation" -- where the people selling participation in these scams are hoping that you are the typical "suit with a credit line" who knows nothing of the topic, in the hope of emptying your accounts with vague promises and glittering generalities.

It's a bunch of "engine abusing" bull and it will get your sites slapped down sooner than later.

On the World Wide Web, a link farm is any group of web sites that all hyperlink to every other site in the group.[1] In graph theoretic terms, a link farm is a clique. Although some link farms can be created by hand, most are created through automated programs and services. A link farm is a form of spamming the index of a search engine (sometimes called spamdexing or spamexing). Other link exchange systems are designed to allow individual websites to selectively exchange links with other relevant websites and are not considered a form of spamdexing.

Link farm is something I won't recommend you to practice. It is a black hat technique and is outdated and banned by Google as a spammy method to obtain links.
