Domain renewal

I know that you can't transfer a domain within 3 weeks of the renewal date, but when is the last point in time that you can actually renew the domain?

Most registrars give you 14 days after the renewal date comes up to renew the domain, though that policy may vary from registrar to registrar.

By registrar, do you mean authority (like nominet, verisign etc.) or the one thet I buy the domain from (like godaddy)?

By registrar, I mean whomever you are buying the domains from.

I realize that some of these companies are resellers for larger registrars, but they will usually follow the guidelines given to them by the "parent" registrar.
