Uhhmmm. Hmmm. I'm not the smartest person and freely admit it. I can be dense and ignorant. But ...

Isn't every page a potential "landing page"?

Really. You don't have control over what a potential user searches for. You don't have control over what Google (et al) spits out for that search. So index.php and about.php are both "landing pages" depending on the search term and the algorithm du jour. Doesn't it make a lot more sense to "optimize" every page for the user? (User? What's a "user"?)

But you're the expert. I'll defer to your expertise.

    Bwhahahaa... Got it in one.

There's a reason Matt Cutts told us "write for the USER, not the engine" -- which is why 99.99% of what people call SEO is 'hoodoo-voodoo' that WILL get you slapped down sooner or later once Google catches on to the latest flavor of manure.

Writing to the user, wouldn't that mean accessibility and graceful degradation? Nah, that would be crazy, too easy and far less work. Can't possibly have that.

As Kevin2 has implied, all pages are potential landing pages, so should be optimized for speed of initial load. This is particularly so for the Home page, as this is likely to be most frequently used as a landing page. However, it is not true that you have no influence over the pages that will be listed by the search engines. The facility to manually add PRIORITIES to site maps exists specifically for that purpose. See the site map documentation for further details...

Buddy i guess you post before asking about the bounce rate of a website right? and i'm agree with kevin2 every page is a potential "landing page" and focusing on making effective landing page results in low bounce rate.
page load time should be low.
you content should be of high quality and easy to understand.
site navigation should be easy for the visitor.
the page shouldn't have the popup ads or something like that because it makes a visitor frustrated maximum time.
and many more thing that your landing page should have.
all these things will reduce your bounce rate and as low as your bounce rate makes your page more useful to visitors in google's eye..

    breathtaking landing page revolves around:

Captivating call to action such as Shop Now, Sign Up, Contact Us, and Subscribe Now.

    Luring offers
