    Using input of <input>-tag as a variable in external JS-file

    on my page I want to insert some sliders via
    <input type="range" value="...">

    I use jquery and an external js-file full of self-defined functions, which I know to use (the $(document).ready- command) . But: I would like to use the value obtained by the slider-value as a variable of my function.
    Does anybody know how to do that?
    Thank you

    If its JQuery you need to be in the JavaScript frameworks forum.
