why use functions.php instead of template file to call stylesheet
Apologies if this is not the right place for this thread.
I have created multiple custom templates, and use custom stylesheets for the majority of templates, as they take on a whole new look.
Most places say to call external stylesheets from within the functions.php. Is there a reason for that?
I have done it both from the functions.php file and also the custom templates php file. Both work fine. The functions.php just requires an extra couple lines of code for conditional statements.
I am just looking for clarification and making sure I use the most recommended practice for calling external stylesheets for custom templates.
This is using genesis framework wordpress
