    Question What video player should I choose for Web application

    I would like to know, what video player should I use, when I want to create a place where people can upload square videos. Like old Instagram or Vine.co. ... I mean, they can upload normal video, but it will be then cropped. It's ok, I'm just wondering what player should I use for it.

    Some helpful ideas?

    ... I'm interested in how they (Instagram etc.) were solving the problems. They just crop the videos to the center or did they use some special player that is focusing for example on the head of person and then it's somehow cropped around the head to the square?
    (Maybe it's too complicated, but you know what I mean)

    Thank you!!

    Hi and welcome to the site.

    It sounds to me that you need a server-based video processing app, not a video player! So I Googled "server based automated video editor", and this is what I found. I hope this helps...

    On second thoughts, you may just need to constrain the display of the videos to only show the central portion of wider videos. E.g.

    container {
    position: absolute;
    top: 0;
    left: 0;
    height: 400px;
    width: 400px;
    z-index: 2
    overflow: hidden;
    #ifr {
    position: absolute;
    top: 0;
    left: 0;
    margin: 0 auto;
    z-index: 1;
    <div id="container">
    <iframe id="ifr" src="myvid.mp4" height="400">
    I haven't tested the code, so it may need tweaking, but this may give you the idea.

    Note: If, instead of using a container div set to "width: 400px", you constrain the IFrame to "width: 400px" this will alter the aspect ratio of the videos. Which you probably will not want!
