~ Action for reported posts ~

    Hi there Webdeveloper.com administrators,

I have repeatedly reported a certain member, who shall remain nameless in
this post, for his/her repetition of banal, pointless, and spammy posts.

These reports have been totally ignored by the forum's moderators.

In this one thread, for example...

How do I auto scroll down a page in HTML?

... you will find four examples of his/her nonsense...

    2. http://www.webdeveloper.com/forum/sh...81#post1521481
    3. http://www.webdeveloper.com/forum/sh...39#post1522039
    4. http://www.webdeveloper.com/forum/sh...85#post1521685

Posts 1 - 3 are identical in content.
Posts 3 and 4 have spam links to this site...

    https://www.linensrange.co.uk/

If this very aggravating type of content is actually considered to be
acceptable, then please let me know, as it will stop me from wasting
    my time reporting miscreants.

I have noted that there's multiple accounts that originate from Indian IP addresses, the persons concerned are connected in some fashion to the IT industry yet their questions are basic queries a search engine will turf up in seconds rather than posting in a forum to ask for help, these individuals already know the answer and I doubt very much that they will revisit the posts they make.

    Hi there \\.\,

I dont really see what your post has to do with my gripe.

As a moderator, though, perhaps you could tell me why you,
personally, might have seen fit to ignore my much repeated
"Report Post" efforts with regard to this thread...

Of course, I am aware that the HTML forum may not be
    within your jurisdiction.

coothead, I did the same steps as you last week (and I strongly believe we reported the same members from India), but these members are still here. My only possible guess is that forum administrators don't remove these members and their postings to keep the forum looking bigger and more active (let's face the truth - this forum isn't as active as other web development forums around). While such a strategy has its own benefits for sure, the biggest disadvantage is that such spam activity will prevent "reputable" persons from registering here, and/or some registered members (who post high quality messages) will go away after some time. There are many examples on that (previously popular forums ruined by fake members posting crap content).

Of course, the forum is a property of administrator(s), so there's little we can do and our only solution is to respect the decision of forum owners at the moment.

coothead - thanks for bringing this to our attention.

It's pretty easy to overlook posts/reported posts etc... We all get emails about reported posts... Often times we'll come to the site to check it out and get distracted by other things that are going on.

Silly me, I was beginning to think that being a vegetarian
was the reason for my reports being permanently ignored.

Moderators do not get alerts, the reporting system reports (like all forum boards operate, send the alerts to the board owner or who registered the product)

So the deficiency in responsiveness is not a case of being ignored, it is an inadequate system within a forum board and I think you gripe is better directed at the developers of the forum board themselves and not the moderators or admins.

I understand your gripe, it blows up my kilt too like a hurricane in Antarctica.

    Hi there \\.\,

On the majority of forums I am considered to be a "persona non grata" as a moderator,
and have often been likened to Vlad the Impaler.

You may see one excellent example though, of my diligent moderating style when dealing
    with pointless spammy posters here...

...where no one escaped my wrath.

I am not sure that I will live long enough to be able to delete another forum.

It took a great deal of my time and self sacrificing effort to return that forum
    to it's original pristine condition.

    p.s.

You do not mention in your profile that you are, like me, geriatric.

You have just repeated word for word the contents of post #5 and you're
the type of member to whom I want the powers that be, to take action.
