Help with Domain Name SE rules for Affiliate Themed Mini-Site

    Hey Everyone!

My question/problem is: I am starting a new affiliate themed mini-site. This is my first time. After reading several books, getting software (non-optimizing),and web hosting, alright, I'm ready to go!
What I had read was pick your domain name using your keyword phrases, then use it in your title, in your content pages, and in naming your pages. If I couldn't use the terms, then use a hyphen. Then, I read something that made me think everything I had read was outdated. Oh, my gosh! There went all self-confidence.

I read that Google, especially, frowns on this. This was the reason GoTo.com had to change their name to Overture. That hyphenated words are seen as one word, which meant, only if the person typing in this was would find me. Thirdly, my site would be banned.

What is true? I don't know what do. What are the current optimising rules? Please help me with my confusion.

You can call your site whatever you want, there are no laws when it somes to names (except for any copywrites that companies may have).

I called mine quiterude.com (still working on the actual site), I don't give a stuff what google think, it's my site not theirs. As a search engine it's their job to store as many sites as possible in their database, if they start being selective then people just won't use them.

Thank you! You do have a point.

What I was wanting was to get a high ranking for the free traffic and since this is affiliate sales, while it will have some content pages, it's not going to have the content your site probably does.

I would take Google to dinner if it would help my page ranking! ;-)
