I posted this question a while back but unfortunately got no response.
Offhand, does anyone know if a Not for Profit organisation needs to be registered in the United Kingdom, and if so how? I tried to find out information but got absolutely nothing relevant.
You don't need to register not for profit organisations, though there are benefits in some cases for charities with official status. Unincorporated associations don't legally exist in the same way that limited companies do (i.e. there is no limitation of liability) but they are not illegal.

For this "official" status, do you know which entity one must get in contact with to achieve? Pressure at the moment is to try and get it "registered" in some way...
For charities there is the Charity Commision, but the only other similar option is forming a limited company. In most cases, it is not necessary for small associations.
