I have recently acquired some funds to buy webhosting/a domain name and was wondering where I should get my hosting? I plan on going through godaddy.com for the domain, so that is all set, but what about hosting? I was thinking of using A Small Orange, but before i do get it, what do you all think? Is there anyone here who hosts from them? Thanks

Peo, he's running Word Press on his blog, so he's going to want *NIX/FreeBSD for PHP/MySQL.
Neczy, Conor Hastings uses A Small Orange. I would suggest just getting a small plan if you only need a blog. Probably the cheapest plan. If you need something bigger, the shared hosting at www.iPowerWebhosting.com has been excellent for myself as well as Soccer36.

Contargulations. Let me know how it goes, eh? Eventually, when I can get my hands on some “lettuce”, I want to get some hosting, and I’ve looked at A Small Orange and they look pretty good.
Thousand different paths
So many sterile ends
I chose the Devil's path
Never shall the sun kiss my face
And caress me with it's burning light
For I dwell in the shadows
And sleep side by side with death

what exactly is word press and why would it prevent someone from running php off of a windows server... a better question would be why does it force someone to run on a unix server

Maybe not, but it sounded like he was being forced to use unix... I was wondering why he had to use unix.

Windows will run php/mysql as well as anything else, it's just is not free like linux and some versions of unix.
