I am not sure I understand your question.

If you are referring to bob.net instead of bob.com, then they are really the same in that they are a domain name.

It is free to use asp.net. Which is loosly called .net. But using a .net domain will require you to pay a registration fee through verisign (who runs the .net root servers and the .com root servers), or though a reseller. I suggesting using www.godaddy.com

While using one of these domains is not free, it is very cheep.

ASP.net is a server side lang. You dont have to pay to use it, but if you want good hosting and a domain you will have to use some money
