what is a linkfarm?

hi all!

while reading the forums I came across this word 'linkfarm' or 'FFA' (??). I guess it's a site full of links to other site... right?
But is it any good? And can you show my some examples please?

Link Farm ( Beware do not use it)

a thirdparty provider b/n you and your competitor or provider.

it is something called Link exchanges through thirdparty services.

I have made the mistake in the past, linking to a link farm that was for viagra and casinos. Now, I get massive link exchange request that I have to keep on denying.
