Welcome to the Computer Issues forum!
This forum is dedicated to all your general computer issues. Whether it be a flickering monitor or a loud hard drive, you can get an answer to your questions here. Although this subject may have nothing to do with web development it is a crucial subject for many of us. If our computers don't work then we can't do what we love, web development. This forum is pretty wide open for your computer issues but here are a few guidelines which may help you get your question(s) answered more quickly and efficiently.
Some Useful Guidelines!
The following is a list of some useful guidelines which you should follow to get your question answered as best as possible.
One thing you should do before you ask any computer related questions is gather all the information about your computer as possible. This includes your operating system, the version, any serial or model numbers you can find, and any other info that you think may help to explain your problem. One program which will help you gather allot of information about your computer is a program called Everest. This is a wonderfully simple program to use and it will give you pretty much any info on your computer you could ever want. There is an option in the program to export a log file. You should choose the text only version and post it as necessary.
Some times computer issues can be caused be viruses or other malicious programs. One thing you should always try before you ask any questions is a virus scan program. A virus scan program will be able to show you any programs that may qualify as malicious. It is recommended that you always keep your virus scan program up to date as most virus scan programs use a reference file that contains all the current viruses so your virus scan program will know what to scan for. If you do not keep it updated, your virus scan program may overlook newly released viruses. It is also recommended that you run your virus scan program in the strongest setting possible. This will ensure that every possible file on your computer was scanned for viruses. Here are some virus scan programs that we suggest:
Many members will suggest that you run a program called HijackThis which is a program that scans your computers startup programs and other important things. When you download the program you should put it inside a permanent directory; not a temporary one and also not just dropped into the main directory of your drive. Once the scan is complete you will be given an option to save the results as a log file. You should do this and then proceed to the HijackThis forum over at VirtualDr and post your log. At VirtualDr they have a forum geared specifically for HijackThis. The experts there can give you better advice so we recommend you post your HijackThis logs there.
A very common cause of computer issues is new programs. Often people will install new programs that created the problem and they don't realize it. We suggest that you post, at least, the last couple programs you've installed. This may help us to track down the problem. Some times issues can arise after a program has been installed for quite a while. In cases like this it is probably a good idea to post all your currently installed 3-party programs. These are programs that you have installed since you first setup your computer such as games, utilities, and others.
Now that you have supplied us with all the information possible about your issue we will be able to help you work it out. As long as you follow the simple guidelines above all your questions should be answered with the correct answer. One thing to note is that some questions may not get answered right away. Please be patient and do not double post. You question will be answered if the issue is fixable. Also, please remember that all experts involved in these forums are volunteers. They do not get paid to do this. They are spending their free time to help you so please be respectful to them.
