Unhappy Google keeps crashing my browser

My browser crashes whenever I try to visit the Google website.

I think it might be something to do with the advertisments on the site, because I started getting intermittent problems of this kind some time ago when they changed their advertising scheme.

Now I can't seem to get on the site at all.
When I try to enter, my browser crashes with some kind of kernal error and I have to reboot my computer.
(A pop-up error message comes on the screen which can't be removed.)
I don't seem to be getting this problem with any other websites.

I'm using Windows 98SE with Internet Explorer 6 (I think).

Does any one else have this problem, or know what might be causing it?

Windows 98 crashed an awfull lot of times for me before I bought a new PC and got Windows XP. Windows 98 isn't supported anymore by Microsoft, which means new applications installed on your PC when running Windows 98 might be a causing compliancy problems (technology and coding might not be supported by Windows 98).

Another problem I faced with Windows 98 was the fact that it had to be reformated at least one time each six months. The initilisation list (in what order programs are opened) was cluttered due to many installations and removals of application, which the Windows 98 operating system doesn't handle as well as Windows XP.

Finally, be sure you run the IE 6 web browser with all updates installed.

    Ditch Internet Explorer...

try doing it on this browser, the best on the world mind you:

    http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

It is mozilla firefox. Hopefully you won't have any problems with it, it is an easy transition for prior users of Internet Explorer. Good luck! Respond if problem persists.

I have run into this at some systems in our schools comp lab. I just put mozilla on like 10 of the computers and their users have not had problems since.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Unfortunately, I don't think this computer is powerful enough for me to upgrade it Windows XP.
So I'll try Firefox - hopefully that will be more stable.

    Many thanks.
