Advice on drop-down menus for a novice

First of all, I am a complete novice in web design. So please keep any explanations simple!

I have bought an off-the-shelf site and am adapting it for my own needs. I have a couple of drop-down menus that people will select to view different reports (which will be on seperate pages). I want my users to be able to select the report they need from the menu, and as they select the report, to be taken to that report. I've looked around and tried to insert the link to the page with the report, but it doesn't work.

Could someone post an example of the full details I need to do this?

    Thanks

are you using a program to make the site or are you hand-coding it?
