    blinking line

    I'm not sure what to call the thing I want to get rid of. It is the vertical line that blinks in an input field it gets the focus. I've tried doing searches on 'blinking cursor' and that just doesn't seem to be it. I'm having issues with it blinking irratically on my page and I either want it to stop blinking or just not have the line there at all. Can someone please help me?

    That's built in to browsers. There is nothing you can do about it.

    <input type="text" name="displayOnly" size="25" maxlength="25" value="" onFocus="blur();">

    That will work for users who have javascript running. For those who don't the cursor will still be there.

    WHy not just disable the input box? That will make it stop.

    Wouldn't it be better to use readonly="readonly" instead of onfocus="blur();"?

    That's going to make the form really unusable not having cursor focus for the input boxes - a big no-no.

    I still want to allow the user to type into the input box. If you look at the search input field on www.hallmark.com you will see what I want to be able to do but I can't see how they did it. Once you click in the search input box it will allow you to type, but the blinking vertical line is not present.

    Yes it is, just on the right.

    I'm using IE v6.0.2800.1106 and it is not on the right. It is not visible anywhere in the input box.

    A bug in IE5+/Win makes the cursor invisible if it's all the way right in an <input type="text"> that has its padding-right set to 0.

    It's not a bug...it's a 'feature'! Thanks for the info, Kravvitz.

    You're welcome

    Why do you say it's a feature?
