I'm going to go ahead and answer, even though you didn't ask me...

Basically a this is used to reference the element that you are currently in. So, in the case of the select menu, this is the same as document.formname.selectname

    Ok?

this always refers to the object in which it is set. Example: <a href="yahoo.com" onmouseover="alert(this.href)"> This refers to the anchor (<a>) object. "href" is one of its properties. It gets the value of that property and alerts it.

    I added
    HTML Code:
    <option value="#" selected>Please Select...</option>
to the options list and tested it in my web server and it functions just fine.
If your post falls off the page, bump it. ...
Please remember to wrap any code you have in forum tags:-

    [CODE]...[/CODE] [HTML]...[/HTML] [PHP]...[/PHP]

If you can't think outside the box, you will be trapped forever with no escape...
