Okay, here is the real story of Santa.

    Of course Santa exists!

he is magic, and time stops for him, so that whole math/science explanation is out the window!

Its like big foot --- you can't have stories of him all over the world with many different names but all doing the same thing -- there is no such thing as coincidence, therefore he is real ... and magic.

if you don't believe, I'll get my 5 YO to explain.

I find it funny that Thanksgiving precedes Christmas - holiday about thanks, then a holiday about getting gifts.

Most holidays are associated with repenting "sins" committed (either against a person or entity) since the last holiday. Commercialism just exploits that guilt to the maximum; hedonism makes us deny the reality and enjoy it.

Well, technically, Christmas is not supposed to be about getting gifts, though that certainly seems to be what it has mainly become, at least here the US where Thanksgiving has largely become the semi-official start of the Christmas shopping season.

Curmudgeon that I am, I refuse to buy any Christmas gifts more than 2 weeks in advance of the holiday, and I absolutely refuse to do any shopping (outside of food or other necessities) on Thanksgiving weekend.

In Kentucky, we had some stores stocking Christmas items in October. There were several stores with decorated trees the day of Halloween. The local radio stations, and some malls, started playing Christmas music by the second week in November. In my hometown, we have a ceremony announcing the "beginning of the Christmas season" on November 14th. I tell you, I get pretty tired of being holly-jolly by the time Advent and Christmas actually come 'round.

St. Nicholas may be the first and one-and-only live Santa.

But those Santas we see these day are resulted from Guerrilla Marketing. Companies use Santa to market products ..

Another similar thing is Valentine's day. Why do companies all over the world promote valentine day?

Mothers' day : Do you think you should celebrate/treat your mother once an year. That is wrong we should have 365 days per year to at least think about our parents. But companies sell mothers day.

Why do we celebrate 31st December night, because someone has told us year ends on that day, starts new one on 1st of January. If he had told year ends on April 31 sure we will wait for it.

Truth is, when many millions of people on earth dying without food, shelter, medicine, etc we waste billions of money for meaningless things, while being cheated by global marketing

Why couldn't we say our children to donate something for poor, instead cheating them around a fake santa. (You are the santa for them, give gifts monthly, when you receive your salary)

I am not a believer ,too. but I act like I am. cause it is a tradition, and Christmas will not be like Christmas when there's not santa.
