How to transfer a database ?

hello,
I want to transfer a database to another site. Should I use publish and subscribe ? But when I use it, there is an error like:

SQL server doesn't support server name like "local".
Please delete SQL server registry and use real server name for registration.


What can I do ? I appreciate your help.

I backup the database to a test.mdf file. Then, when I try to restore it, how can I load the test.mdf. I use backup in sql enterprise manager, but I can't find the function to load the file.
What's detach and attach ?

I haven't done this in a while and I don't have SQL ent. mgr on this pc to test, but basically you have to create the raw DB and name it, then import the mdf to populate it. Sorry I can't be more specific but as I said, it's been a while since I've touched the program. It's in the menu tool options, somewhere.
