    Unhappy Doctype Background Images

    Hi,

    I'm struggling with a DOCTYPE/Background Image/Netscape 6.2 problem.

    I'm using Dreamweaver 8 and it automatically adds this DOCTYPE to each page:

    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

    It didn't seem to be a problem until I realized that my background images weren't tiling and filling the table area that they are supposed to when viewing in Netscape 6.2. All's well in Firefox and IE and I believe Safari.

    If I remove the DocType everything is fine. I've tried choosing different DOCTYPE statements but have the same problem in Netscape.

    I've set my CSS to: td img {display:block;}. This isn't helping either.

    I've tried to load the background image as a style, same problem.

    Actually, it's not that it isn't tiling it actually isn't even showing the whole background image. It's cutting it off.

    Here is a sample page. If you view it in Netscape you'll see the problem. The yellow background area under the text is cut down. I'd like it to tile and fill the area under the text. This area is longer on some pages and shorter on others.

    Actually, you'll notice that the background color I put in is also cutting off.
    The wider yellow is the background image. The longer yellow area is background color in a nested table.

    This is making me a bit crazy. Thanks for any help on this.

    Amy
