Shouldn't I be seeing results in searches...

    by now?
    Utah Birth Network
was put up in Jan. or Feb.
We had another domain to park there, it has been around for a couple of years...thought that would help. But, we don't appear with yahoo or only on google if entering our entire name, no content/keyword searches like "midwife utah".
We have links to us from less than 10 sites, but I'm trying to get more...also trying to visit them and link to us.
The keywords are differnt and specific to every page and appear throughout content when possible and images contained keywords until I read not to over-use keywords in image tags...so they mostly describe the image now...
but on the homepage I did add some keywords again. Updates are made often.
I have added us to the open...whatchamacallit where I had to take a quiz before submitting a site.
I've added them to a couple of directories also.

But, am I missing something important in the head? I've seen some meta info about spiders and such...is there something else I can do?

I've seen previous posts with answers containing lists of what to do...I think I have done it...so this is a really specific question to my site.

How can you tell how many backlinks you have? KLDA posted and somebody was amazed at how many backlinks he had...like 350 or something....how can you find that info?

    thanks a bunch, missy

You can type this in a Google search to see the backlinks it knows:

    link: www.utahbirth.net/

    (The trailing slash is required.)

There would be no space when searching too:
    link:www.utahbirth.net/

Thank you for the back link codes...they both worked, space and no space...brought up different links actually.

Am I missing anything in my <head> or any invite for spiders at all that you can see?

    I appreciate your time, Missy

Normally spiders will traverse all the pages on your site with no problem unless you specifically restrict them (assuming they're nice spiders that actually respect your requests). All they do is follow the links on the page they're currently reading to look at those pages, follow any links on them, etc. There's only so much you can do to increase search rank by "tricks" like meta tags and such (and you can hurt your ranking if you abuse them). More important is the actual content of your page and the number and quality of pages from other sites which link to your pages. For some additional info from Google: http://www.google.com/corporate/tech.html

Also, you may be hurting your ranking by the fact that your home page has no real content, just images (except for the navigation). The spiders can't read image text. If it were me, I'd try to add a heading and a paragraph or two describing what your site is about.
