multiple instances of same applet causing problems

    Hello,
I have a web page with an embedded applet. If I'm viewing the web page in firefox, then open a new tab and load that page in that tab, the applet from the original instance of the page will become unresponsive. In fact, any commands that I put into the applet from the first page will be transfered to and output by the applet from the second page! This also happens in Internet Explorer 6 when I open a new instance using ctrl+n. Am I making sense? Anyone seen this before? I'm not sure what the problem is.
