    Postal codes.

    Howdy folks. I'm just in the middle of making a form for adding companies to a CMS. The companies being added will have their addresses added to the database and they'll be from all over the world. So I was wondering, what do your postal codes look like?

    Obviously I don't want anyone posting their actual postal codes, just examples so I know what kind of input to expect.

    British ones for example might look like "MA4 2HC". What other kind of formats might I expect from accross the globe?

    Most (or all?) postal codes in Australia are 4 digits. 3058, for example.

    Regards.

    US Codes are 5 digits, but can be up to 9.

    23451 would be a valid code (Virginia Beach, VA), but so would 23451-9018. Most people use 5 digit codes here though...

    PS - Somewhere in my dusty archives I've got a listing of all US postal codes (called ZIP codes here) if you have need of it...

    No it's just the general formats I need. I just want to know what sort of input to expect so my system doesn't filter out valid codes and the database column isn't too short or too long. Nice one for the info so far folks.

    Come on folks! Post your postal code formats!

    Hong Kong: either just abbreviations of the district or the full name.

    Examples:

    New Territories: N.T.
    Kowloon = Kln
    Hong Kong Island = H.K.
    Tsimshatsui = T.S.T

    All other areas use the full name.

    China: 6 digits (usually according to city)

    In fact, you may find this link useful: http://www.bitboost.com/ref/internat...s-formats.html

    Take care,
    Snitch.

    Officially, everyone in the US has a 9 digit code now, but most (including me) don't know what their whole code is. The 5 digit code will get it to the post office, the last 4 just helps the local post office put it on a route. Theoretically, even if the post office is so small that it only has 1 route, the official code wold be something like #####-0001.

    Anyone got the address of microsoft?

    I made a resized image of the Microsoft logo thinking that the address would be an easy one to find so I could do a quick test of the form, but for the life of me I can't find their damned address on the site!

    World Wide Postal Codes - up to 15 characters alphanumeric should cover them all I think.
