Software Review: NetObjects' ScriptBuilder
By Scott Clark
Finally, a script editor for Web developers.
If you develop Web sites regularly, you probably find yourself editing your JavaScripts or VBScripts using the same editor you happen to be using for your HTML pages. And if you're like me, you probably save the WYSIWYG editors for the big jobs, and use a fast-loading text editor for your quick fixes and small pages.
Wouldn't it be great to have a fast-loading editor that you could use for HTML, JavaScript and VBScript? One that includes a library of commonly used pieces of script? I've recently had the pleasure of working with such a tool--NetObjects ScriptBuilder.
ScriptBuilder is what NetObjects calls a "dedicated script development environment." How many times have you written the same code over and over as you've been creating a site? Probably far too many, if you're like most developers. ScriptBuilder enables developers to re-use scripts or parts of scripts that are commonly used. The tool allows you to add your own script-bits to the Script Library (See Figure 1) for use on ASP pages, JavaScripts, VBScripts and HTML pages.
