The Savvy Way to Successful Website Promotion:
Reviewed by Nathan Segal.*Marketing your website and doing without wasting time and money is one of the most challenging aspects of being a webmaster or marketing manager. Recently I came across "The Savvy Way to Successful Website Promotion," where author Derek Galon shows you how to effectively promote your business on a low budget. Make no mistake, this is a serious book on promotion, not about the A-B-C's of building your site. Using techniques described in this book, you will learn what to do, and equally important, what not to do. The ultimate purpose of this book is to help you gain high positions in the search engines - and stay there. What many people do not realize is that designing your page and promoting it are two very different things and this is one of the leading causes of why these websites fail. Unfortunately, designers who are often good at building pages do not have the promotional knowledge to make a website successful and do not include the required ingredients. These sites are often missing such details as proper meta tags, useful keywords, frames on the front page, etc. As a result, the pages simply do not work well, and the small business owner doesn't know why. In many cases, the small business owner becomes disillusioned with the amount of money they have spent, especially when they receive little or no profit from their efforts. I came upon Mr. Galon's book through some friends in the publishing field who highly recommended it. And when I actually began to read it, it really opened my eyes. Finally, here was a fresh perspective on marketing written in a simple, no nonsense language that is easy to understand. Applying what I learned, saved me an incredible amount of time and effort. Originally written in 1999, "The Savvy Way to Successful Website Promotion," was revised in July of 2000 and is due for a revision at the same time this year. As I was going through the book, much of what I applied was very helpful, but some information on the Search Engines was out of date, not surprising in our fast changing online world. Recently, I spoke with Mr. Galon about some of the updates and changes that readers can expect in the new revision. Of the first part of the book, this information is still valid and will not be changed. Some of these topics include: "How to prepare your pages for submission, The importance of a good business name, Keywords, Using Keywords, and What not to do." [ Move on to the next part of the review ]
