Is WIX a good choice?

Hello,

I am in the process of creating a website using WIX. A developer reached out to me and told me that is not the way to go. He made some claims that I am not sure are true or not. Can you please help? Here are his claims:
Do you really think, your wix website could be professional? Not at all! What is your business that you think it could be possible using wix?

Here are some major things that you should think about before going with a wix website.

  • 1.

Most importantly, Google does not like this.:- Your website will not rank well, which makes it harder for people to find. This will affect how much traffic you can potentially get because your site will not be search engine optimized.

  • 2.

Flash Technologies:- A lot of Wix websites are built on Flash technology (they’re trying to push HTML5 now so they do have that capability now), which is the enemy of web prosperity. Flash is so frowned upon that many phones don’t even display it, and some tablets don’t either. This means you’re already excluding a portion of people who might want to see your website. People who are perusing the web on their phones will have a hard time with your site.

  • 3.

Load slow:- Wix websites load slower than those built on HTML (like WordPress) and this will lose people who do want to read about you. Why? We have very little patience and having to wait 10 seconds to see a website is something we’re not used to. We will just click off. Slow loading sites will turn visitors off, and first impressions on the web can be everything. It can keep someone from visiting your site again.

  • 4.

It does not look good:- I have never seen a Wix website that looked highly professional and really nice. Wix sites do not look great or modern, in my opinion. They look like Web 2.0 circa 2004 and in a world where innovation and staying on top of what’s happening matters, this is a mistake.

It is not free real, it is expensive even:- To add insult to injury, Wix websites are not cheap. You’re supposed to get what you pay for but what you pay isn’t matching the value you get.

  • WordPress (.org) software itself is free. What you pay for is server space for hosting, which holds the content of your site. You can get hosting for as cheap as $4 a month for your WordPress site. That’s $48 for the entire year. And you have full website capability and the ability to customize your heart out. You typically have all the space you can need, and you have a site that can be without ads if you like.

Meanwhile, Wix sites are starting at $4.08 a month and that’s the most basic plan.

If you still think, you should go for wix, you are the best judge, but believe me, it will kill all your time, money and efforts.

    Thanks,

    RKS

@jedaisoulJul 02.2016 — Hi and welcome to the site. Please, please, please do NOT title your post "need help" or some such. It really isn't helpful. I've renamed the thread "Is WIX a good choice?" as that sums up what you are asking.

I can't comment on whether the developer's comments on WIX are accurate, but I agree that load time is critical, and should be high on your list of priorities. So before you spend too long learning the intricacies of a particular CMS, research the alternatives...

Also, bear in mind that, whilst CMSs can and do give you almost instant, code free, results, they do take time to master. However learning a CMS does not teach you the underlying code. If you are thinking of website building as a career you will almost certainly need to gain some expertise in coding.

@CodermanJul 03.2016 — Wix is a good option. I have seen that many web designers are using WIX. Personally, I think WIX is much more dynamic than Wordpress.

@vrinsofttechJul 07.2016 — If you are looking or good SEO, WIX is the thing that wastes your time and indeed it takes a time to load your website.

@3wCornerJul 07.2016 — For a personal website, yes it's a good choice and it's free. However, your choices of customization is limited on their available widgets only.

Another free sites that you can create websites are:

    1. Weebly

    2. Webs.com

    3. Wordpress.com

@amandafamMar 26.2017 — Keep in mind that Wix is pretty easy to use, but I think that Weebly is a bit easier. Be sure to check out this Wix Review to decide whether Wix meets your requirements. Btw, all my sites are constructed on Wix, so if you have any questions, feel free to pm me.

@graysonMar 28.2017 — If you're thinking about using Wix for a business website, don't. Wix's score for SEO is only 68/100.

Use a platform that is optimized for business like Magento. It's also free.

    @Vishnu_BridgeMar 28.2017 — Hi guys!

I think Wix is a good choice as my team has been using it to create sites with available templates and using widgets available. There are also various other sites similar to this which are free. Some of them include ucraft, ontrapages, leadpages, etc. I haven't used Wix personally but has heard good about the tool. I have used a free trial version for a responsive website with submit forms using ucraft. Its quite easy to use but paid versions come with many different features like our own domain, many widgets, usages of submit forms in ladning pages, etc.

Not sure about SEO part. Could anyone let me also know about SEO?

@loomfenixMay 15.2019 — I agree with vrinsofttech, google has troubles with scanning WIX sites. I had that issue half a year ago. Maybe now they've solved this issue. In any case, I think that WIX is too expensive and doesn't have all the necessary options. Wordpress is really better in many ways but it's harder to work with it if you don't know anything about coding.

In your case, I would maybe recommend you Mobirise builder. It's free and their SEO optimization is much better. Weebly would be nice too.

@VITSUSAMay 15.2019 — @Rsarpong#1476443 Wix is the good platform to create a website but it depends on your requirements which type of website you wants to make, because if you want to make e-commerce website like Amazon then it will more costly to you and there will be some technical issue which you will have to face in future.

@Martin_SmithSep 03.2019 — Wix is good platform to develop a website, but prefer wordpress for seo frindly website...

@codyhillSep 03.2019 — @Rsarpong#1476443 The claims are true. Now, you need a big site for a decent business? If yes then don't use Wix.

But if you need just a personal site or a landing page then Wix is the best option for you. No need to pay a web developer to code that for you.

Basically, if the project is a big project don't go for Wix. If it not then Wix will make it easier for you.

    @RoksaSep 16.2019 — I like WIX)

@MatthewJRJan 28.2020 — Every DIY website builder has some limitations to them, they are easy to manage, nice design, easy to build, but that's just it. Your SEO game will not be that strong, your controls will be limited, speed as well. However, if your expectations are not high and if all you want is to create a simple landing page, go for it.

There are actually some really good Wix alternatives that may be better for you.

    Check the article below.

    Peace.

@growthfundaApr 02.2020 — WIX is not that mush good. Almost 60% website in this world using WordPress CMS including me. I suggest you to go with WordPress as WordPress is simple, easy to learn, and many help resources and plugins available for WordPress.

@JohnPhilMar 09.2021 — Yes, Wix is a good choice for website development for beginners but if you are planning to scale your business and need more than just a website over the internet for your business then it’s better to explore more options.

    **Hope it helps.**
