It depends on where you are in the world.
If you want hosing services, my advice has been to always buy from a company who is trading in and required to comply with local and national trading legislation.
I have to be completely impartial, can;t tell you who I use but if you try some selective keywords like
cheap linux hosting in <mycountry/state>, <mycountry> OR
cheap linux hosting for under <currency symbol><amount> per year in <mycountry>
and look at the companies one by one.
I have to say that it took a couple of UK companies to finally get to one that was really good and I stuck with them ever since.
The time, it took 2 years to find a host that was reliable.
What you want to seek in their information is the following.
The ideal list is :-
Unlimited Web space
You should only be looking at one fee all in services, they do exist.
I stumbled across this host I am with by accident because I got its name mixed up with Unlimited and didn't pay attention to the auto-correction google made and hit enter to search and got a website, in the UK and never looked back.
If any of them ask for additional fees, they likely have hidden caps and charges, check the small print as there may be caveats where you code something that violates a policy and you get charged a rate that is rinsing your wallet. ALWAYS read the small print.
Finally... It is all down to personal needs, requirements and choice.
AVOID BEING SWAYED by swish sites and very glitzy sites that are there to impress more than anything and give the potential consumer the impression that the company has the best techs...
NEVER go with a host that has to advertise in media of any kind, you know the ones, thats a signal to avoid because there will be zero customer service, it happened to the first host I was with, they were selling up and the staff couldn't give a squirt and service turned in to a ticketing system...
My current host, I can pick up a phone 24/7 and there will be a customer help that knows enough about tech to get things sorted and if its a higher up in admin, within minutes, they're on it.
So a host you can talk to, not the sales guy but the tech's.
Good luck with it.
