There are a lot of "it depends", but the unfortunate truth is that in a lot of cases it may have a negative impact, whether it's ethnic or gender bias. Even here in the USA that likes to claim to be the home of equal opportunity for all, there is a definite gender bias in the software industry in general, in terms of hiring and comparative pay. It's by no means true for every employer, but certainly enough that it's measurable and under a lot of review and discussion. As far as country of origin: in some cases you may have to reveal that, as some jobs will be restricted to within the employer's country or a list of "allowed" countries. However, just look at all the news headlines these days about ultra-nationalism movements in many countries these days, and at least some of them will potentially affect you.
Me: I'd have to deal with age discrimination now if I had to look for a new job. 🙁
