I’m looking for some advice on the best tools/programs to use to improve a very simple website I developed years ago for a club we run that puts on regular, but small, music events in the top room of a pub. You can view the current site at www.ravenfolk.org.uk.
It’s just a one page with basic, rarely changing info on the left and latest guest list (within a document frame) which is updated about 3 times a year on the right. It was developed using Serif Webplus (currently using X7) and though it’s maybe not an exciting site, it meets our simple requirements.
Updates though are a pain, the data updated by hand, getting the formatting right, small changes taking almost as long to make as major ones.
Is there some way in which I can enter guest details into some sort of database and have them automatically display on the website – preferably a similar format to now (paragraphs not a table) without having to go through the rigmarole of re-publishing and re-uploading the whole thing every time?
What programs/tools/web builders/methods would you recommend to achieve this?
I should add that I've looked at a couple of online web builders (wix and wordpress) but they seem heavily based on their own templates, and charge around £20 a month if you want to use your own domain name. We are a VERY small club run by volunteers and enthusiasts ans can't afford to pay that kind of money on a regular basis.
I haven’t been able to find a way to do it in Webplus, but that could be my inability not the program. Although I worked in IT for 20 years, it is now some 20 years since I did any development and then it wasn’t web development. I have no experience of using SQL. I used to know a bit about Access, but these days I’m more comfortable with Excel.
Many thanks, Sharon
