PHP framework choice for my project

Hello,

I’m about to start developing a rather heavy web site, and first I have to decide which PHP framework I should prefer.
The weight of the site will be somewhere around the size of an e-commerce site, but it won’t be more complex than that.

I have some experience in CodeIgniter, which is a big advantage, but it might be too light for the job. Speed is an important aspect — one article says that Laravel is the fastest, one says CodeIgniter is faster because its small amount of code. As for Symfony: it seems to be an overkill, I don’t want the job to be _too_ laborious.

(Also: Laravel is more sought in developer jobs than CodeIgniter, taking into account that my knowledge will remain.)

My question is: is Laravel a better option, even if I have some practice in CodeIgniter?

Thanks for your help.

@NogDogMar 20.2020 — I'd be inclined to go with Laravel, but I'm somewhat biased by having met the main developer at a conference a few years ago, and being very impressed. I do think it's the best PHP MVC framework, and it's actively being updated/improved. If one of the others looks to be a better fit for what you want to do, I would check to see if it's development is active, if for no other reason than to make sure it's keeping up with security concerns.

If you do think you want to go the Laravel route, checkout out Laracasts.com for a lot of good video tutorials.

@leaffaceauthorMar 20.2020 — @NogDog#1616468 Thanks! The development of CodeIgniter is active, although its releases are a bit irregular (as an article states), so it might not be secure enough.

The world is moving towards microservices architecture. So if it can be split up split it up !
