Fade in and out – how?

I’ve used jQuery before and used the fadeIn and fadeOut functions a lot with ajax calls. Its a better visual experience when loading content.

How do they achieve this? whats the vanilla way of doing it? Do you change the opacity over a time from 1 to 0 then back to 1 when you’ve got the fetch results?

@SempervivumJul 24.2020 — Fading in and out can also be done by changing the opacity and using CSS animation or transition. This works without JS completely, however in some cases JS is needed for controlling start and stop.
