form validation

Hello. I want a user to be able to submit only a non-empty form. What is the best way of doing that? Allowed technologies: php, javascript.
<form action=”submit.php” method=”post”>

message: <input class=s1 type=”text” name=”message” style=”width:50%” value=”<?php if($_SESSION[“i”]>1){echo ”;}else{echo ‘write a new message here..’;} ?>” onfocus=”this.value=”” />

<input class=s1 type=submit value=send>

</form>
Could you please help me? Thank you.

@SempervivumNov 16.2021 — This can be done easily by HTML5 form validation:

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Learn/Forms/Form_validation

Apply an attribute "required" to your input and the user will get an error message when he tries to submit while the input is empty.

Success!
