I'm trying to run a server on EnGarde Secure Linux, but I don't understand the instructions on setting up a physical connection (http://www.engardelinux.org/doc/guides/engarde-quick-start-guide-3.0/engarde-quick-start-guide-3.0/connecting.shtml#AEN215).
I have Bell High-Speed Internet. This is basically how it's connected: computer->ethernet cable->router->ethernet cable->modem->phone jack
I'll have to use a splitter or something similar. The instructions say to use a hub or switch, but I don't have them or know how to use them.
You don't have to read the following, my main question is the above
From my understanding, a server is connected to the Internet, which is connected to my main computer. However, according to the instructions, it sounds like the server has to connected to another computer.
Also, I thought that softwares like Dreamweaver, Photoshop, etc can be installed on the server, making FTP/data transfer optional (since you can create anything you want from the server). However, according to the instructions, the server is strictly a server.
