Why don't you just chop out of the data object the time code?
var nowTime = new Date().toUTCString().slice(16,25);
That gets the time as a 24 Hour format.
if you want a 12 hour format then you would need to use something like this.
var nowTime = new Date();
var h = nowTime.getHours();
var t = [ (h<12? h : h-12) , nowTime.toUTCString().slice(19,22) , (h<12 ? "a":"p") +"m"].join("");
bit messy but that should do the trick.
