The term leading is often used in desktop publishing and basically refers to the space between two lines of text in a paragraph. In css this is handled using line height. For example the following code will set both font size and leading for h1 tag

You should know that CSS uses half-leading to render lines of text. The difference between the line-height and font-size is divided by 2 and that amount of spacing is placed above and below each line of text.
Leading gives the impression of lines of text being closer together or further apart.
FYI, it comes from the pre-computer days of typesetting with "hot metal", and leading was literally sticking a strip of lead between two lines of type.
