the difference between without asterisk :not(p) and *:not(p)

In CSS, what’s actually the difference between :not(p) without asterisk and *:not(p)

@rootJun 24.2018 — If you google it, you will find out what the :not element does in CSS.

As well as what * does.

so the :not(p) will say to whatever uses it, to apply the whatever setting to everything within that class EXCEPT when a P tag is encountered and then it is IGNORED.

* is every element.

So in answer to the query...

*:not(p) is every element but not the P tag elements.
