Hello, I never had to use SSL on my websites before, just want to clear up a few things.
I did a website. originally, it was http:// but recently it requires to use SSL, so I purchased a SSL from the host, now both http and https works for the websiteIs. Is it supposed to be this way? I thought http and https only works one way or the other, but not both, Is there somethink I forgot to set up? Thanks.

@NogDogNov 29.2018 — All depends on your web server config. You may want to look into redirecting http requests to https, which can be done via .htaccess file on Apache. (Google something like "redirect http to https in htaccess", and you'll probably find hundreds of entries. ? )

@isoft110Nov 29.2018 — You need to write 301 redirect for every page for not doubles, you can use "easy https redirection" plugin if your site builds on wordpress, or check for some analog if you use other cms.

@VITSUSANov 29.2018 — Presently Google also giving more preference for https domain in SEO and in Google Analytics also provide different data of https also.

I have repeatedly asked **VITSUSA** to back up his

numerous wild claims with reliable sources.

Of course, he never has and never will. ?

@Yuva12Nov 30.2018 — SSL is a way to encrypt information on your website using the SSL protocol.

@rootNov 30.2018 — I know and a lot of SSL companies selling certificates for HTTPS have an interest in pushing the myth.

HTTPS is only needed in situations where sensitive data is being sent to a server or logging in to a server or service...

@rich1812authorNov 30.2018 — Thanks everyone. For some reasons, SSL is required by BANK OF AMERICA to do a business site, which I thnk it is over killed for the website. Also they mentioned something like PCI SSD email compliance what da hell is that?

@rootDec 01.2018 — @rich1812#1598465 With that attitude towards payment processing and handling personal data, I wouldn't want to trade through you...

Think about what you just said, what if you were the client and paid $500 for something that never arrived or you got the item but were charged 10 times that amount and the site was insecure?

Would you think that SSL is over kill then?

If you can't be bothered then hand over that responsibility to a payment gateway and take the hit on fees for the very fact that they are offering something you don't want to provide your clients with, security.

Although it is not a good proof, it is a good sign that you have noticed

that your claims are being dismissed by some as just personal beliefs.

Your **good proof link**, though, is to **ahrefs** whose praises you never

stop singing and therefore cannot be considered to carry any weight.

Google actually has this to say on the matter....

>[color=#069]_"We've seen positive results, so we're starting to use HTTPS as a ranking signal.

**For now it's only a very lightweight signal** — affecting fewer than 1% of global

queries, and carrying less weight than other signals such as high-quality content

— while we give webmasters time to switch to HTTPS."_

@rootDec 02.2018 — @rich1812#1598491 Anything that takes payment is online trading, therefore you need to keep in mind that the end user is the person you secure the site for and protect but have to also watch in case of malicious attacks.

When you are dealing with payments, taking payments, you have to understand that what may be overkill in some quarters is a requirement, whether or not there is a legal imperative for you to comply with the law, either way, the off the cuff remark was clear enough indication that the subject is not being considered.

Lecture? POINTING OUT A FACT.

@Saravanan28Dec 04.2018 — SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer. It provides a secure connection between internet browsers and websites, allowing you to transmit private data online.
Copy linkTweet thisAlerts:
@Yuva12Dec 05.2018 — The purpose of SSL is to keep sensitive information sent across the Internet encrypted so that only the intended recipient can make use of it.
