steverobert Depending on the website, for example, people posting here expecting backlinks, as I understand it, their posts are futile.
So everyone putting all this working to backlinks is really for nothing.
What are you checking it for?
How do you know when it died?
If you link to someone on the grounds they share your link, and you are checking, why?
Google are only interested in what your site links to and if it is relevant.
Really, the end of day scenario is all this effort and work is all to no avail because your listing and site ranking depends in your search criteria.
If you search for something your site has and you use the same words in same sequenced that appears in your site somewhere, the chances are that your site would rant in the top 5 or so, if not pole position.
The more lose your search term, the lower you will rank in other results that are returned. and a very general term, don't be surprised if you have to go looking several pages.
What you really need to be worrying about is building a name on a local, regional basis. I say it and keep saying it, WOM = Word Of Mouth is more powerful than twitter, facebook, whaterapp it is calling itself social media, people talking reaches more people faster than social media ever will.
It is a total myth that social media aids business growth, word of mouth for millions of years has allowed man to grow to a point we have technology. If we had to rely on apps and other modes of communication other than verbal and written, then we wouldn't have technology to problem solve coding issues on...
So you really need to weight up and balance the amount of effort and work for the perceived return.
