Starting a new job this Monday on an application which is implemented in Java (though not web browser-based), so I'll be stopping by here, possibly with questions, and maybe - just maybe - with answers (eventually).

One thing though again im questioning the postioning of this forum shouldnt it be along side with php etc

Mayby. The forums are a bit mixed up. Coffee Lounge is in Development. I definetely dont get much development done during my coffee break!

Certainly not...since Java is not a scripting language at all....it definitly does not belong to the other forum titles in the development cat,however that is the only appropriate title for Java to be in...as a matter of fact java should have its own category "Kick a** programming languages category"

The Coffee Lounge is actually set on its own, there's just no dividing line to make it apparent. Agreed that Java ~should~ be in a programming category, but since we don't have such a category, Development is the closest match.

I guess there wouldn't be too much popularity in a Delphi forum if there was one, eh?

I just asked because I'll be working in Delphi sometime soon in Uni and I may need bigtime help with the programming/concepts. :p

Almost true ,
Java's appplications range from stand alone desktop applications, to web (apllets or jsp/servlet based) applications , complete enterprise solutions, All kinds of mobile media(cell phones,small hand helds,smart credit cards etc)....the point is Java's usages are so wide spread that there is no way you can categorise it that its good for one tech and not for another.
It is true that since these are webdevelopers forums, and since a part of java can be used(allot better then any other tech) for web development. its well suited for these forums as well as it could be under any other hard core programming languages section.(though if you think about it C/C++ can be useg for web development as well - CGI programming)

Hate to say it, but C++ is used in web development ... often behind the scenes of games and stuff. Does that meanwe get a C++ forum too? Of course not.
